Under the ‘Halsey Fest’ umbrella brand, Newark Alliance, with the invaluable support of committed partners, continues to expand its public programming and initiatives to support the equitable growth of Halsey Street and the Arts and Education District, more broadly.

Halsey Fest Events

Halsey Fest allows Newark Alliance and its partners to deliver on commitments to inclusive placemaking work that drives the equitable growth of Halsey Street. Join Newark Alliance in its mission to collaboratively make Halsey Street a cultural capital of the United States, reflecting the diversity and history of Newark, as well as a leading vehicle for inclusive growth, ownership, and wealth creation, building upon Halsey Street’s current array of home-grown businesses.

  • Intentionality in its inclusiveness to all Newarkers, from all Wards.

  • Providing programming that links the northern and southern ends of the Halsey Street corridor, anchored by both Tubman Square and Lincoln Park.

  • Amplifying local small businesses and local talent.

  • Multiple events allow for expanded programming, greater audience reach and increased spending with small businesses.

Halsey Festival - Sept 19 | 3PM - 8PM

Family Fun • Music • Food • Shopping

Halsey Festival will engage university students and office workers and local families as they return downtown post-Summer and deepen connections to the full Halsey Street corridor. This event will feature a main “stage/performance area” providing an opportunity to showcase Newark’s local talent, vendor market with food and goods, and free activities for all ages. Strong engagement with community organizations is a hallmark of Halsey Festival.

Halsey Fest x BrownMill Block Party

The BrownMill Anniversary Block Party x Halsey Fest is a free, full day outdoor event of curated cultural experiences for children and adults under the backdrop of Newark-based artists, makers, and small businesses selling one-of-a-kind goods. Newark's iconic Halsey Street comes to life with the BrownMill Anniversary Block Party x Halsey Fest presented by Newark Alliance. This event celebrates the community organizations, makers and businesses fueling Newark's unwavering creative energy.

Halsey Night Market

Debuting during North to Shore, New Jersey’s premier arts festival, Newark Alliance will produce a vibrant night market, featuring Newark’s vibrant small business and creative community. The Halsey Night Market will take place concurrently with a suite of events in and around Tubman Square, with a high degree of collaboration and coordination to ensure a dynamic visitor experience.

Halsey Nights - Summer Series

Halsey Nights will engage Newarkers and visitors on Halsey Street on Saturday late afternoons/evenings in the summer. Leveraging the new festival lighting installed by Newark Alliance and Newark Downtown District, Halsey Nights will emphasize small business and community collaboration and feature live entertainment and music, responding to the demand for programming designed for the Gen Z and Millennial age group and for the Gen Z and Millennial age group.

Halsey Fest x The Newark Holiday Festival: December

In 2023, Newark Alliance led the inaugural effort of The Newark Holiday Festival, a marketing effort to promote a collaborative calendar of holiday events in Newark’s Arts and Education District. Made possible by Halsey Fest supporters, the Alliance developed materials for The Newark Holiday Festival, provided additional PR exposure for events, sponsored 3 holiday markets and a Black-owned business shopping tour, and sponsored a Newark Gift Card scavenger hunt!
