WORKFORCE DEVELOPMENT
As a cornerstone of Newark's revitalization the Newark Alliance supports workforce development initiatives in the city, the northern New Jersey region and the state.

The Newark Alliance's approach – focusing on a wide geography for workforce development initiatives – broadens job and career opportunities for Newark's residents. Our approach to workforce development also supports the public workforce system as an employer–driven system; directs training resources toward the needs of employers; aligns training and jobs; and develops career pathways for lower–skilled workers.
Key initiatives in workforce development include: The Greater Newark Funders Collaborative (GNWFC); Workforce Innovations in Regional Economic Development (WIRED); and, the Financial Services Talent Network.
GNWFC
The Greater Newark Workforce Funders Collaborative is an innovative, sustainable workforce development solution in northern New Jersey that will enable low-skilled workers to advance in careers and businesses to compete. It is part of the award-winning National Fund for Workforce Solutions, a five-year, $30 million effort to fuel high-impact workforce partnerships throughout 31 regions in the U. S. to advance 30,000 workers.
WIRED
The North Jersey Partners Workforce Innovation in Regional Economic Development (WIRED) grant developed regional partnerships between industry, education, economic development and workforce development entities to create jobs in the regional economy through coordinated planning. The Newark Alliance led this three-year $5.1 million U.S. Department of Labor Employment and Training Administration initiative.
TALENT NETWORK
The WIRED initiative sparked the Talent Network concept whereby a Coordinator works with industry leaders, educational institutions and the public workforce system to address and resolve staffing and training issues. This concept is being implemented on a statewide basis for four targeted sectors.
