The Newark Alliance supports the education efforts that are led by our partners in the City. There are clear connections between education and our primary areas of focus, workforce and economic development, and we maintain points of alignment by partnering with those leading the charge in education. Our primary intersection with the education sector is through the Newark City of Learning Collaborative (NCLC), a collective impact effort initiated in 2013 that seeks to increase the percentage of Newark residents who hold postsecondary credentials from 13 percent to 25 percent by 2025. NCLC is hosted and managed by the Joseph C. Cornwall Center for Metropolitan Studies at Rutgers University-Newark, and builds public-private partnerships across sectors to establish community-based intervention programs and best practice solutions along the cradle-to-career continuum. The Alliance works with NCLC to ensure that as residents attain degrees and credentials, there are viable career paths available for them to obtain relevant job opportunities that offer competitive living wages.
